From time to time, we should converse." ☕ Cw: discussion of anxiety and depression ☕ At the beginning of this year I reduced my anxiety and depression meds. I started listening to my body more, to know when I was truly bad and if I could get through it. Again, around this time a friend put me onto the writings of Pema Chodron, who advises simply sitting with our pain and anxiety without judgement, without trying to find the cause. ☕ The other day, I had the worst anxiety attack that I've had in a while, and it is thanks to medication and lots of hard work and therapy that this attack was practically par for the course. I've felt worse. I tried staring into my anxiety, not struggling against it, but seeing it, and acknowledging it. I sat with my partner, who let me be quiet. I felt better, then I felt worse, then I felt better. I went to sleep, I woke up no longer anxious.There had been fear and uncertainty but there had also been love and understanding. So it goes. ☕ This is what works for me, at the moment. Medication, familiarity and years of practice finally let me know what I'm feeling without immediately lashing out. This might work for you, it might not. Healing is not linear, life is not linear. I am actually beyond bonkers excited to have a physical copy of this book finally in my life. I think it was among, if not the actual, first Queer YA I ever read, and it set the bar pretty high! I didnt have anything planned for IDAHOBIT but my friend made me this beanie for my birthday so i want to show off her amazing handiwork! 🏳️‍🌈 I have seen friends in tears and full-blown panic attacks thanks to fear and hate. I have been suspended from twitter for using the word TERF. Homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and intersexism stop us from being our true selves, even within the LGBTQAI community. I borrowed this from a cute girl and you'd better believe I'm going to get my own copy. 👬 Now let's get real for a second: I have a very complicated relationship with Yaoi and most LGBT+ manga in general. This is actually summed up very well in an episode of Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san where a gay couple come into the store looking for mlm manga. The LGBTQAI+ section is tiny, but the Yaoi/doujinshi section is huge. The lines between the two are becoming more blurred however, as I think much of the prominent BL manga, while still being written by women, is also being written by more queer men. 👬 BL has such a long history in Japan, I couldn't possibly go into it all in an instagram caption (and boy did we skim over it even with an hour-long panel!!) but suffice it to say that this is one of the areas where I recommend just enjoying what you enjoy for the sake of it, but don't forget to educate yourself, and don't forget there's a line between fiction and reality. 👬 If you wanna know more feel free to comment or DM me - just be prepared for rants!! . . . #jackass #scarletberiko #suBLimemanga #wherebelesbians
This picture isn't actually in greyscale... 📓 I have strong opinions about the content of Stephen King's writing, especially regarding the way he writes women, but he is undeniably a compelling master of the craft. 📓 I love writing, and I have been blessed that writing a sentence has always been as easy and natural to me as breathing. Because of this however, I often resent books that tell me how to do what I do (I even did a semester of creative writing at university and uh... only went to about 3 of the lectures). For my part I often find that the struggle isn't about the ideas or the turn of phrase, but about actually picking up the pen and getting those ideas out of my head in the right way. 📓 I'm wanting to learn to make that happen, and how to be better and to improve, and On Writing is actually helping with that so... its pretty good in my books then. . . . #onwriting #stephenking #wherebelesbians
